Charles "Chuck" Dunning

Charles “Chuck” Dunning was born March 3, 1944, in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, to William Alvie and Hazle (Payte) Dunning. At a young age, his family moved to Salem, Missouri where he grew up. Chuck graduated with the class of 1957 from Salem High School. On March 26, 1999, Chuck was united in marriage to the love of his life, Brenda Lee Warden. He was blessed with two wonderful children, Tammy and Darrell. Chuck and Brenda were blessed with twenty-four years of marriage and memories. Chuck worked for Beaufort Transfer as a truck driver for thirty-two years before retiring. He was a hard worker and took great pride in providing for his family. In his spare time, he liked to go fishing, especially at private lakes. Chuck was a member of the Oak Meadow Country Club in Rolla and enjoyed a competitive game of golf with his buddies. Most important to Chuck was his family and spending time with them. He was a devoted husband, dedicated father, loving grandfather, and beloved great-grandfather. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to him, and he treasured the memories made together. Chuck departed this life September 3, 2023, in Rolla, Missouri, at the age of seventy-nine years. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife: Brenda Dunning of Rolla, MO; children: Tammy Southard of Cuba, MO and Darrell Dunning and fiancé Judy Bell of Rolla, MO; mother-in-law: Helen Warden of Salem, MO; sisters: Carol Broyles and husband Jim of Salem, MO, Connie Lewis of Maryland Heights, MO, and Susie Greenlee and husband Dave of Oklahoma; sisters-in-law: Val Dunning of Springfield, MO and Barbara Ard and husband Barry of Salem, MO; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren: as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends. Preceding him in death, his son-in-law: Clyde Southard; parents: William and Hazle Dunning; brother: Kent Dunning; brother-in-law: Oman Lewis; and his father-in-law: Howard Warden. Chuck will be remembered for his kind and humorous nature. He was a good-hearted man, knew no stranger, and would do anything for anyone. Chuck will forever be missed by those who loved him most. Funeral Services for Charles “Chuck” Dunning were held Thursday, September 7, 2023, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Vern Allen officiating. Song selections played were “How Great Thou Art”, “Don’t Cry For Me”, “I Won’t Cross Jordan Alone”, and “I Will Not Say Goodbye”. Serving as Pallbearers were Don Morris, John Parkin, John Mulchen, Jimmie Taylor, Gary Owen, and Barry Ard. Burial was in the North Lawn Cemetery.
