Dale Edward Donovan

Dale Edward Donovan, born April 14, 1941, in St. Louis, Missouri, passed away June 24, 2026, in Salem, Missouri, at the age of eighty-five years. Dale was the son of Edward and Mildred Donovan. He was raised in St. Louis, and following his high school graduation, he entered the United States Navy. Dale faithfully served for two years and was honorably discharged, a service he carried with pride throughout his life. On May 15, 2006, Dale married the love of his life, Shirley Mae (Martin) Boyd. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, family, and cherished memories. Dale loved Shirley deeply, and the two enjoyed sharing their blended family and celebrating the many blessings that came from it. Dale was a dedicated and hardworking man throughout his life. He spent many years employed with Anheuser-Busch and also proudly served as a police officer, dedicating himself to his community and the people around him. A gifted musician, Dale had a lifelong love of music. He could sing and play nearly any musical instrument, but the guitar held a special place in his heart. He especially enjoyed playing old country music and sharing his talent at family gatherings, celebrations, and in the comfort of his own home. Music brought him joy, and he delighted in bringing that joy to others. Dale was a lover of old cars and had a large collection of cars on display in his home. He enjoyed traveling and had many fond memories visiting different states when his son Chris was younger. He also enjoyed watching war movies and westerns. Dale appreciated the simple pleasures in life. His daily routine often began before sunrise, enjoying a cup of coffee on the front porch as he welcomed each new day. He was a man of faith and treasured time spent with family and friends. Dale is survived by his loving wife: Shirley Donovan of Salem, MO; children: Chris Donovan and wife Angie of Florissant, MO, Ricky Harris and wife Beth of Texas, Lesa Harris of Sunrise Beach, MO, and Angela Gamblin and husband Jeff of Salem, MO; sister: Eileen Tiesing and husband Mike of South Carolina; grandchildren: Kimmy Rucker and husband Skyler of Herman, MO, Chrissy Donovan of Pacific, MO, Clayton Donovan of St. Charles, MO, Ryan Harris and wife Kelsea of Texas, Raustin Harris and wife Hannah of Texas, Brandon Berry of Macks Creek, MO, Justin Berry of Salem, MO, Cody Berry and fiancé Courtny of Sunrise Beach, MO, Derrick Shaw and wife Emilie of Salem, MO, Aaron Shaw and wife Lacy of Salem, MO, and Cory Gamblin and significant other Dalton of Tennessee; great-grandchildren: Victor, Teagan, Harper, Aubrey, Jackson, Masiyn, Ryker, Levi, Corbin and Kandace, Llayton, Karsyn, Jayden, Trenton, Raelynn, Austin and Viv, Maddie, Braxton, Avery, Wyatt, Kinslee, Blayne, Kolsen, Easton, Trenton, Colby, and Liam; great-great-grandchildren: Addeline and Huntlee; other relatives and dear friends. Preceding him in death were his parents: Edward and Mildred Donovan. Dale will be remembered for his devotion to his family, faithful service to his country and community, his love of music, and the kindness and warmth he shared with everyone he met. His songs, stories, and gentle spirit will remain treasured memories for all who knew and loved him. "The song may end, but the melody lingers on."
