Donna Mae (Payne) Halbrook

Donna Mae (Payne) Halbrook was born August 24, 1956, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Curtis Clinton and Norma Jean (Brooks) Payne. She grew up in the St. Louis area where she attended House Springs Elementary School and Roosevelt High School. Donna was raised by her grandparents Irvin Guy and Minnie (Hogan) Brooks and graduated from Viburnum High School. Donna was united in marriage to Dennis Halbrook and to this union blessed with four children: Fina, Matthew, Caleb, and Joshua. She was a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who spent as much time as possible making memories with her family. Donna later furthered her education with SBU and Columbia College where she obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. She started her working career as a tax analyst with H&R Block in Salem before moving to her own office in Steelville. Donna also worked with the U.S. Census Bureau and spent many summers working at Akers Ferry. Donna enjoyed spending time outdoors in nature, tending to her garden, and doing yard work. She loved her flower beds and always smiled when they were in full bloom. Donna liked taking road trips, spending time down at the river, and going camping. She was a lady with many talents, one of them being her fine cooking and baking abilities. Donna was an active member of Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Victorious and incredibly proud of her sobriety. Her journey and dedication inspired many, and her commitment to helping others in their recovery was a testament to her generous and loving spirit. Donna was a lady of strong faith in the Lord. She grew up and has many fond memories at Anutt Community Church. Throughout the years, she frequented New Harmony Church, Walking Faith Ministries, and Salem Christian Church. Donna entered into eternal rest July 9, 2024, in Columbia, Missouri, at the age of sixty-seven years. Those left behind to cherish her memory include her loving children: Fina Halbrook and fiancé Adam Kuehl, Matthew Halbrook, Caleb Halbrook and wife Jacki, and Joshua Halbrook all of Salem, MO; stepson: John Lockwood and wife Karen of Licking, MO; siblings: Beverly Miller and husband Reuben, Christina Payne, and Ben Payne; grandchildren: Mercedes, Lexus and fiancé Ty, Issac, Levi, Dashiel, Adriahna, and Lilliahna; great-grandchildren: Laylah, Ivy, Alice, and Maeve; special nephew: Joe Clark; special niece: Heather Hites and husband Gene; extended family and dear friends. Preceding her in death were her parents: Curtis and Norma Payne; grandparents: Irvin and Minnie Brooks; and infant sister: Linda Sue Payne. Donna was truly a genuine lady and an amazing friend. She could brighten up your darkest days with her contagious smile and hug. Donna left a lasting impact on the lives of many. Memorial Services for Donna Mae (Payne) Halbrook were held Friday, July 12, 2024, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Lyndell Decker officiating. Song selections played were “Mine Again”, “Follow You To Virgie”, “Down To The River To Pray”, and “Go Rest High On That Mountain”. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri. Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Donna Halbrook to help with final expenses and left with Wilson Mortuary.
