Freda Nadine Stricklin

Shirley Ruth (Mullnack) Sapaugh was born August 12, 1939, Cabool, Missouri. She was one of Jesse and Ruth (Padgett) Mullnack’s five children. Shirley grew up in Salem, Missouri, and graduated from Salem High School. While in high school, Shirley met the love of her life Wayne E. Sapaugh. The two were united in marriage on September 28, 1958, and to this union they were blessed with four children: Waynetta, Gaylene, Bryce, and Kendall. Shirley and Wayne shared a unique bond rooted in friendship and trust. They spent the last sixty-six years creating a life filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories. In her early working years, Shirley was a switchboard operator with the local telephone company. Her main focus was being a dedicated wife and mother. Her greatest joy was being grandma to her seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. The time spent with them was her greatest treasure, and the love she had for them was immeasurable. Shirley was a collector of antiques and had an eye for Graniteware and Watt Pottery. She enjoyed attending auctions, flea markets, and antique stores. Shirley was a talented woodworker, excellent tole painter, and skilled in ceramic work. Shirley and Wayne loved to travel. They have visited all fifty states and all the Canadian Provinces. One vacation, they traveled 13,169 miles that spanned over six weeks and four days. For the past twenty-three years, for four months each year, Shirley and Wayne were Winter Texans. While there they attended as many as seven music shows a week. Together they loved riding bikes. On several occasions they have put their bikes on the hand operated ferry and rode across the Rio Grande River to have lunch in Mexico. Shirley was a lady of faith which was evident to those around her. She attended Second Baptist Church where she enjoyed helping with crafts. In 1971, she started attending Salem First Baptist Church where she helped with the Acteens. There were times where she had as many as fifteen girls spend the night in her home. Shirley entered into eternal rest January 2, 2025, in Columbia, Missouri, at the age of eighty-five years. Those left behind to treasure her memory are her loving husband: Wayne E. Sapaugh of Salem, MO; children: Waynetta Parker and husband Clifford of Salem, MO, Gaylene Brown and husband Tim of Espanola, NM, and Kendall Sapaugh and wife Teresa of Salem, MO; brother: Bob Mullnack and wife Elizabeth of DE; sister: Shelly Karr and husband Phillip of Salem, MO; grandchildren: Kimberly Owen and husband Baxton, Clifton Parker and wife Tori, Matt Brown and wife Jilian, Hailee Hauquitz and husband Chris, Micah Brown and wife Becca, Emilee Dudley and husband Jake, and Miles Sapaugh; great-grandchildren: Emily Keene and husband Jackson, Keion Owen, Lydia Buie and husband Hunter, Korbin Parker, Mason Parker and wife Hannah, Payton Parker, Ethan and Evan Brown, Piper, Sydnee, Hynlee, Charlee, and Jonah Hauquitz, and one on the way; great-great-grandchildren: Jonas, Callen, Isla, and one on the way; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends. Preceding her in death were her son: Bryce Sapaugh; parents: Jesse and Ruth (Padgett) Mullnack; and sisters: Judy Halbrook and B.J. Shannon. Shirley was a sweetheart, always with a smile and kind words. Her legacy will be remembered with love, and her spirit will live on in the lives of those she touched. Shirley will be forever missed.
