Rev. Jackie Dale Leathers

Rev. Jackie Dale Leathers was born on September 22, 1947 in Malden, Missouri to Charles Junior and Betty Jo (Belt) Leathers and passed away May 1, 2020, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Salem, Missouri at the age of seventy-two years. Jackie grew up in Malden, Missouri and graduated with the class of 1964 from Bismarck High School. He went to further his education at Southwestern University and obtained his masters. On December 10, 1965 Jackie married the love of his life, Linda Marie Whitener in Bismarck, Missouri and together they shared fifty-four years of marriage and were blessed with three sons: Jackie Jr., Jeffry, and Allen. Jackie entered the United States Army on September 4, 1979 and served his country faithfully until his retirement after twenty years of service. During his time in the military, he was able to travel the world and for his faithful service, Jackie earned many decorations, medals, ribbons, and awards to include: Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and the NCO Professional Development Ribbon. Jackie worked hard to provide for his family; he worked as a Hawk Launcher, Mechanical Systems Repairer and Helicopter Repairer while in the Military. At the age of sixteen, Jackie surrendered to the call of ministry while at the Rocky Point Campgrounds. He was honored to serve in the ministry as a Pastor for over twenty years. He deeply cared for his congregations and truly valued his time ministering to the community. In his spare time, Jackie enjoyed spending time outdoors. He could be found fishing, hunting, and playing golf. Jackie had a big heart and loved helping people when he could. Most important to him was his family, he cherished the time spent with them and treasured the memories they made. He especially loved the time with his grandchildren and great-grandson. Jackie leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife: Linda (Whitener) Leathers of the home; two sons: Jackie Leathers Jr. and wife Debbie of Green River, WY and Jeffry Leathers and wife Christy of Salem, MO; mother: Betty Jo Leathers of Salem, MO; four siblings: Janace Mahurin and husband Randy of Salem, MO, Rodney Leathers and wife Glenyl of Salem, MO, Mark Leathers and wife Tracey of Rolla, MO, and Tim Leathers and wife Tami of Wilton, IA; three grandchildren: Natalie Castro and husband Gabe, Noah Leathers, and Neely Leathers; one great-grandchild: Benaiah Castro; extended family and friends. Preceding him in death were, his infant son: Allen Paul Leathers and his father: Charles Junior Leathers. Jackie will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved and served the Lord and his country as a true patriot and servant. He will be missed dearly. Funeral Services for Rev. Jackie Dale Leathers were held Wednesday, May 6, 2020 in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Randy Mahurin and Bro. Tim Leathers officiating. Special Music was provided by his Grandchildren singing “It Is Well With My Soul” and “Go Rest High On That Mountain”. Bro. Scheperly presented the Christian Flag on behalf of the Assembly of God Association. Serving as Pallbearers were Jerrod Leathers, Randon Leathers, Allen Whitener, Ron Copeland, Logan Pogue, and Jeff Pogue. Honorary Pallbearers were Rodney Leathers and Mark Leathers. Military Honors were provided by the United States Army. Burial was in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery-Fort Leonard Wood. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri. Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Rev. Jackie Dale Leathers to the Grace Community Church Youth Group and left at Wilson Mortuary.
