Jimmy Lee Turnbough

Jimmy Lee Turnbough was born in Viburnum, Missouri on April 20, 1937 to Ernest and Murl (Hedrick) Turnbough. Jim spent most all of his life in the Viburnum area. He attended grade school at Boss and high school at Cherryville where he graduated with the Class of 1955. He married the love of his life, Junia May Payne on December 21, 1958. They spent 54 wonderful years together and to this union three children were born: Rick, Peggy and Connie. In the early 60's he drove a bus for Bi-State in St. Louis, Missouri. When he moved to the country, he went to work for St. Joe then to Amax Lead Company. After he left Amax, him and Judy opened their own feed store. He was a cattle farmer by choice. Sports was Jim's passion; baseball, softball and basketball were his favorite. He played all three until he just couldn't anymore. He was very passionate and loved the sports of our school, he would of done anything to support them; Jim was a "Bluejay" thru and thru. Until the day he passed that was the most important thing to him. Jim was a member of the Viburnum Assembly of God Church and belonged to the Lion's Club of Viburnum and the Masonic Lodge in Salem. He loved "his" town and gave 110% for it everyday. Not to many people know this about him, but his grandfather George Turnbough at one time owned the land that our school and most of the town sits on, which is why he loved this place so much. When Jim came back to the country he talked Mr. Baker into donating land for the ballpark. Jim was so passionate about baseball that him and a few other men worked day and night to build the ballpark. Jim will be sadly missed by the community. Jim is survived by his son Rick Turnbough; daughters Peggy Davis and husband Paul and Connie Cowin and husband David; eight grandchildren Amanda Watson and husband Dillard, Courtney Mouser and husband Tim, Ricky Turnbough, Jr. and wife Ashley, Shawn Davis and wife Amy, Kyle Turnbough and wife Jaime, Michael Cowin, Samantha Keel and husband Colby, Tyler Cowin and wife Michelle; fourteen great grandchildren Jacob Pryor, Josie Pryor, Bayli Graydon, Logan Mouser, Kalei Davis, Tucker Graydon, Hailey Turnbough, Keira Turnbough, Braelyn Turnbough, Briar Turnbough, Mikah Davis, Paylin Mouser, Ella Rose Cowin, Parker Watson, and Baby Cowin on the way; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his wife Judy; parents Ernest Turnbough and Murl Dunlap; brothers Delmar, Vondel, Roy and Bob Turnbough and Donald and Edward Dunlap; sisters Gladys Turnbough, Betty, Marilyn and Barbara Dunlap. Funeral Service for Jimmy Lee Turnbough was held Monday, March 25, 2019 at the Wilson Mortuary Viburnum Chapel with Pastor Paul Davis officiating and Bro. Dave Cowin reading the obituary. Peggy Davis and Rick Turnbough both shared wonderful memories about their father. Special Music was "He Set Me Free", "Amazing Grace", "I Did It My Way" and "Don't Let the Old Man In". Serving as pallbearers were Ricky Turnbough Jr., Shawn Davis, Kyle Turnbough, Michael Cowin, Tyler Cowin, Jacob Pryor and Tucker Graydon. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Young, Tim Mouser, Colby Keel and Dillard Watson. Interment was in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Davisville, Missouri. All arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Viburnum.
