John Copeland Hoy

John Copeland Hoy was born April 24, 1939, in Granite City, Illinois. He was one of two children born to Charles William and Rose Evelyn (Hawkins) Hoy. John grew up and graduated high school in Granite City, Illinois. John enlisted into the United States Marine Corp for several years before transferring to the Army National Guard. He served his country faithfully for twenty-nine years before his honorable discharge. John was a proud patriot and supported other veterans. In 1980, John was united in marriage to his sweetheart, Patricia Sue Dwinell. They shared together three children: Dallas, April, and Sarah. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His family was important to him, and he enjoyed making memories with them. During his working career, John sold Combined Insurance, installed Rainbow Siding, and pulled and set up mobile homes. He was a hard worker and took great pride in supporting his family. In his spare time, John enjoyed playing golf. He was a longtime member of the Second Baptist Church in Salem. John departed this life January 9, 2024, in Salem, Missouri, at the age of eighty-four years. Those left behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife: Patricia Hoy of Salem, MO; children: Dallas Hoy of Warrenton, MO; April Sellers of Salem, MO, and Sarah Stites of Salem, MO; sister: Doris Edwards-Klenke of Illinois; beloved cat Meko; as well as a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Preceding him in death, his parents: Charles and Rose Hoy. John was a big jokester and loved telling his family his “dad jokes”. He found great joy in making others laugh and loved nothing more than filling his home with laughter and happiness. John will be forever missed by those who loved him most. Funeral Services for John Copeland Hoy were held Tuesday, January 16, 2024, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Clay Harper officiating. Song selections played were “Butterfly Kisses”, “Daddy’s Hands”, and “Because He Lives”. Serving as Pallbearers were his loving family and dear friends. Burial with Full Military Honors was in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Waynesville, Missouri. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri.
