Jonathan David Gibbs

Jonathan “Jon” David Gibbs, a beloved son, father, grandfather, teacher, coach, and Marine, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025, at the age of sixty-two years. Born on January 5, 1963, in St. Charles, Missouri, to Jackie and Sharon (Moore) Gibbs, Jon was one of four cherished children. He attended Ft. Zumwalt School in O'Fallon, Missouri, graduating in 1981. His high school years were marked by exceptional athletic skill, accomplishing winning two state wrestling championships. Following graduation, Jon pursued his passion for education, earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri. Simultaneously, he proudly served his country in the Marine Corps Reserves, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to patriotism. Jon's life was enriched by the love of his family. He married Stephanie Bauer, and together they welcomed two children, Miranda and Jon Jr. Later, he found love again with Kelly Drury, and their union brought two more children into his life, Hannah and Josh. He was immensely proud of his children and cherished the title of father. The joy in his life extended to his grandsons Jack and Caleb, especially with his grandson Jack, with whom he delighted in sharing jokes and laughter. For many years, Jon dedicated himself to the education and mentorship of young people, serving as a beloved history teacher and coach of wrestling and football, and activities director at Ft. Zumwalt North High School. He poured his heart into shaping young minds and hearts, instilling values that would serve his students and athletes throughout their lives. The relationships he forged with his colleagues were deep and lasting, often feeling more like family than coworkers. Beyond the classroom, Jon found solace and enjoyment outdoors. Hunting deer and turkey with his children was a treasured tradition, as were the many family gatherings at their property in Salem, Missouri. Jonathan is survived by his father: Jack Gibbs; mother: Sharon Moore; children: Miranda Wilke and husband Brett of O’Fallon, MO, Jonathan Gibbs Jr. and wife Kelley of St. Peters, MO, Hannah Gibbs of Naples, FL, and Joshua Gibbs of Wentzville, MO; brothers: Robert Gibbs and wife Rutchel of Salem, MO and Stuart Gibbs and wife Monique of Palm Springs, CA; grandsons: Jack and Caleb Wilke; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends. Preceding him in death was his sister: Jackie Gibbs. Jon leaves behind a legacy of unwavering patriotism, boundless love for his family and community, and a profound impact on countless lives he touched. His memory will live on in the school district he so dearly loved and in the hearts of his family and friends. Celebration of Life with Military Honors for Jonathon David Gibbs Sr. was held Saturday, April 5, 2025, in the Ft. Zumwalt North High School, O’Fallon, Missouri, with Retired Superintendent Dr. Bernard J. Dubray, Activity Coordinator Ted Hickey, Retired Principal John Christopher, his daughter Hannah Gibbs, and his daughter Miranda Wilke speaking. Song selections played were “Somebody Touched Me”, “In My Life”, “Hello, Goodbye”, and “Here Comes The Son”. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri.
