Levenia Alvah (Harris) Mettler

Levenia Alvah (Harris) Mettler was born April 2, 1935, in Doss, Missouri, to Warren and Evelyn Harris. Levenia was a graduate of Salem High School then furthered her education with the University of Kansas where she obtained her LPN Certificate. She then attended Penn Valley Community College for her RN Degree. Levenia started her professional career in 1956, and it spanned over fifty-two years of dedicated service working as a Registered Nurse. She has worked in several hospitals and nursing homes around the Kansas City area. Levenia had a true passion for serving others. Levenia was united in marriage to Jackson Manford Mettler Sr. on November 28, 1958, at Salem First Baptist Church, Salem, Missouri. In this union they were blessed with three sons: Ralph, Jackson, and Morris. They shared twenty-nine years of memories before his passing in 1988. Levenia had a great fondness for teapots and cookbooks, she collected many throughout the years and was always on the lookout for more when visiting new places. She was a great cook who enjoyed making meals for her family and four dogs. One of Levenia’s dogs was diagnosed as a diabetic, it was thought that this was from her feeding them so many of her goodies. Levenia was skilled at crocheting and could spend hours making granny squares, blankets, and other beautiful patterns. Levenia also enjoyed attending the First Christian Church of Springfield. Levenia entered eternal rest July 28, 2024, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of eighty-nine years. She is survived by her sons: Ralph Mettler and wife Mary, Jackson Mettler and wife Lenelle, and Morris Mettler; siblings: Jim Harris and wife Rosemary, Mildred Gulley, Emery Harris and wife Judy; and Orvin Harris and wife Kay; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives, and dear friends. Preceding her in death was her loving husband: Jackson Mettler; parents: Warren and Evelyn (Cusick) Harris; and siblings: Barton Harris, Martin Harris, Frances Stagner and husband Willis. Levenia will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by those who loved her most. Funeral Services for Levenia Alvah (Harris) Mettler were held Monday, August 5, 2024, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Chris Hendrix officiating. Song selections played were “Amazing Grace” and “I’ll Fly Away”. Serving as Pallbearers were BJ Poucher, Morris Mettler, Ralph Mettler, Orvin Harris, Ben Gulley, and Ron Stagner. Honorary Pallbearers were Jim Harris, Martin Harris, and Barton Harris. Burial was in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri.
