Mary Ann (Hawkins) Cuddy

Mary Ann (Hawkins) Cuddy was born at home on January 11, 1938, in La Center, Kentucky. She was one of five children born to Robert B. and Virgie Lee (Peyton) Hawkins. Mary grew up in Kentucky and graduated from Ballard Memorial High School. On June 14, 1957, Mary Ann was united in marriage to the love of her life, Larry Cuddy. They created a strong bond with each other and many lasting memories during the last sixty-seven years. Mary Ann and Larry were blessed with two sons, Matthew and James. During her working years, she worked at Barards Lingerie, Dollar General, and the MFA Green Spot Garden Center. Although, she did work outside the home, her primary job was that of a homemaker. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved caring for her family and home. Mary Ann was a talented seamstress and enjoyed sewing. Her love of the outdoors led her to spend countless hours tending to her flowers and garden. She found joy in watching the birds and hummingbirds that visited her feeders. Mary Ann was a “rock picker” and an avid collector of rocks. She truly admired all types of nature. Although she had many roles and hobbies, her family time meant everything to her. Her grandchildren and great-granddaughters were her world. Her faith was displayed in the love she shared with them. Mary Ann was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Kentucky and Prospect Park Methodist Church in Illinois. Mary Ann entered eternal rest October 14, 2024, at her home in Salem, Missouri, at the age of eighty-six years. She is survived by her loving husband: Larry Wayne Cuddy of Salem, MO; son: Matthew Wayne Cuddy and wife Trena of Salem, MO; grandchildren: Rebecca England and husband Daniel and Joshua Cuddy; great-granddaughters: Ava Mae and Raelynn Marie; sister-in-law: Patsy Ann Enley; as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. Preceding her in death were her son: James Oren Cuddy; parents: Robert and Virgie Hawkins; and siblings: Nan White, Bobby Lee Hawkins, Glenda Kelly, and Lucy Lamb. Mary Ann will be remembered as a sweet country girl who lived a life filled with love, friendship, adventure, and admiration. She will be deeply missed by those who loved her most. Graveside Services for Mary Ann (Hawkins) Cuddy was held Friday, October 18, 2024, at the Stone Hill Cemetery with Pastor Jim Privett officiating. Congregational Hymns sung were “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art”. Serving as Pallbearers were Alan White, Tim White, Paul Beech, Daniel England, Josh Cuddy, and Matthew Cuddy. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri. Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Mary Ann Cuddy to the American Cancer Society and left with Wilson Mortuary. Memorial Envelopes will be available.
