Peggy Jean (Litty) Whitaker

Peggy Jean (Litty) Whitaker was born October 14, 1930, in Sligo, Missouri. She was the daughter of James Arthur and Mary Clarice (Murray) Litty. She graduated with the class of 1948 Cherryville High School. Peggy was united in marriage to the love of her life, Raymond Whitaker, on May 20, 1950, at the Methodist Church in St. Louis, Missouri. To this union they were blessed with three children: Ryan, Vicki, and Russell. Peggy and Raymond shared nearly fifty-three years of marriage and memories before his passing May 8, 2003. Peggy and Raymond were longtime business owners of Whitaker Building Supply in Salem, Missouri. They enjoyed serving the community until their retirement in 1995. In her spare time, Peggy enjoyed keeping herself busy painting and crocheting. She loved her chocolate and enjoyed baking sweets for her loved ones. Her most cherished role was that of a grandmother. She treasured time spent with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, and her love for them was immeasurable. Her family was the center of her life, and she was always eager to offer support, love, and guidance. Peggy was a longtime member of Salem First Baptist Church. She loved attending Sunday School and Sunday Worship as well as being a part of the Bereavement Ministry. Spending time and taking trips with the Widow’s Group is something she always looked forward to. Peggy entered eternal rest January 27, 2025, in Rolla, Missouri, at the age of ninety-four years. She is survived by her son: Ryan Whitaker and wife Tina of Salem, MO; daughter: Vicki Rowan and husband Larry of Salem, MO; daughter-in-law: Kim Whitaker of Salem, MO; grandchildren: Lance Whitaker, Drew Whitaker and wife Shonda, Phillip Rowan and wife Teri, Eric Rowan and wife Ann, Jennifer Schaefer and husband Tom, and Jaime Roweton and husband Brock; great-grandchildren: Mackenzie, Bayleigh and Penelope Whitaker; Austin Bettigrew and wife Danielle; Brittany Rowan; Russell, Taylor and Turner Roweton; and Jocelyn, Madelyn, and Katelyn Schaefer; great-great-grandchildren: Nolyn and Blakely; as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. Preceding her in death were her husband: Raymond Whitaker; son: Russell Whitaker; granddaughter: Jessica Whitaker; parents: J.A. and Clarice Litty; and her brother: James “Jim” Litty Jr. and wife Shirley. Peggy always had a smile on her face that she shared with those around her. She will be deeply missed, but forever remembered for her caring heart, generous spirit, and sweet legacy she leaves behind. Funeral Services for Peggy Jean (Litty) Whitaker were held Thursday, February 6, 2025, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Joe Brand officiating. Special Music was provided by Ann Emory, David Hancock, and Lisa Wulff. Serving as Pallbearers were Ryan Whitaker, Drew Whitaker, Eric Rowan, Brittany Rowan, Tom Schaefer, and Brock Roweton. Honorary Pallbearers were Lance Whitaker, Phillip Rowan, and Austin Bettigrew. Burial was in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri.
