Richard Dewayne Overby

Richard Dewayne Overby was born August 19, 1965, in Columbia, Missouri. He was the only son of Richard and Wilma (Smith) Overby. Richard grew up and attended school in Salem, Missouri. On May 24, 1997, he was united in marriage to Jackie Nash, and to this union was blessed with one daughter, Brittney. He was a devoted and proud father. Richard was a talented and respected auto body collision expert. He was currently working at Wilson Collision Center, previously known as Larson Collision Center. For a time, Richard owned his own shop, Overby Auto Body. Richard loved and was skilled in woodworking and found great joy in making furniture. He also enjoyed woodcarving. He had a love for the outdoors and liked going fishing, hunting, and riding his motorcycle. Richard loved his family and would do anything for them. He valued the time spent with his children and grandchildren. His family, faith, and friends were the most important parts of his life. Richard gave his heart to the Lord, June 18, 2021, the day of his father’s funeral. Richard departed this life August 18, 2024, in Salem, Missouri, at the age of fifty-eight years. Those left behind to treasure his memory include his loving mother: Wilma Overby of Salem, MO; daughter: Brittney Overby of Salem, MO; stepson: Eathan Head of Kansas City, MO; mother of his daughter: Jackie Nash of Salem, MO; special aunt: Linda Skaggs; aunts: Thelma Skaggs, Dottie Chapman, and Ann Nash; cousin: Dalton Skaggs; several grandchildren; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends. Preceding him in death were his father: Richard Overby; grandparents: Fred and Floy Overby and Ruby and Earet Light; uncle: Jimmy Skaggs; and cousin: Alan Dwayne Skaggs. Richard had a personality that was as big as a mountain with a heart and soul to match. He was always looking after and helping others. His legacy will live on in those who loved him most. Funeral Services for Richard Dewayne Overby were held Thursday, August 22, 2024, in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Linda Skaggs officiating. Song selections played were “I’m Moving On”, “In The Garden”, “Roses Will Bloom Again”, and “Drift Away”. Serving as Pallbearers were Jimmie Skaggs, Joseph Lester, Billy Usery Sr., Billy Usery Jr., Richard Wilson, and Dakota Kittrell. Honorary Pallbearers were Wayne Carter and Laverne Stricklin. Burial was in the North Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri.
