Verla Leona (Miner) Abney

Verla Leona (Miner) Abney was born on January 16, 1934 in Buick, Missouri to Columbus Otto and Nellie Victoria (Camden) Miner and passed away on December 2, 2020 at Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of eighty-six years. Verla grew up and attended school in Buick, Missouri. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Harvey “Dick” Leonard Abney on February 23, 1952 and together shared nearly fifty-six years of memories before his passing on January 12, 2008. Verla and Dick were blessed with four children: Rick, Vickie, Danny, and Lanny. Verla was a hard worker and worked diligently as a seamstress at the garment factory in Salem for many years. Verla was a woman of many talents who enjoyed working with her hands; she was a master seamstress and avid quilter. In her early years, she enjoyed gardening. Verla was a woman of faith and loved the fellowship at Boss Assembly Church for many years. She read her Bible daily and truly loved the Lord. Most important to her was her family, she cherished the time spent with them, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and great-great-granddaughter. Verla is survived by her loving children: Rick Abney of Cape Girardeau, MO, Vickie Mungle and husband Mark of Jackson, MO, Danny Abney and wife Debby of Burfordville, MO, and Lanny Abney and friend Roberta Forslund of Viburnum, MO; siblings: Imogene Decker and husband Jim of Salem, MO, Hattie Brooks of Salem, MO, Cora Norris and husband Richard of Salem, MO; grandchildren: Tara Medley, Jeff Mungle, Jason Mungle, Heather Beggs, Dawn Zoellner, Amy Major, and Anton Paintner; great-grandchildren: Riley Smith, Austin Smith, Paige Robinson-White, Arianna Mungle, Morgan Hoffman, Bailey Beggs, Clara Beggs, Hadley Zoellner, Alex Major, Hayden Major, Noah Major, and Colton Paintner; great-great-granddaughter: Sofia Mata; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Preceding her in death were her husband: Harvey “Dick” Abney; parents: Columbus and Nellie Miner; brothers: David and Troy Miner; sisters: Maxine Nelson, Lilly Martin, and Gladene Volner. Verla leaves behind a legacy of honor and love for her family. Verla will be forever remembered and deeply missed. Graveside Services for Verla Leona (Miner) Abney were held Monday, December 07, 2020 at Boss Cemetery with Pastor Paul Davis officiating. Song selection played was “Go Rest High On That Mountain”. Serving as Pallbearers were her loving family and friends. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Viburnum, Missouri.
