Virginia Louise (Smith) White

Virginia Louise (Smith) White was born September 3, 1933, in Gladden, Missouri. She was one of five, and the only daughter, born to Herschel and Delsie (Halbrook) Smith. She grew up in Dent County and graduated with the class of 1951 from Salem High School. On December 12, 1953, Virginia was united in marriage to the love of her life, Ray A. White. They shared nearly fifty years of marriage and lasting memories together before his passing August 25, 2003. Virginia and Ray were blessed with four wonderful children: Janice, Dennis, Rick, and Pam. Virginia worked as a factory laborer for many years. At the age of fifty-two, she started classes at Rolla Technical Institute and received her Licensed Practical Nursing certificate. Virginia worked for Seville Care Center until she retired when Ray’s health started to decline. Virginia loved the outdoors and tending to her flowers around the yard. She enjoyed cooking and baking and will be remembered for her macaroni salad and German Chocolate Cake. Virginia also liked gardening and canning her vegetables. She was a St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Fan and liked watching every game. Her faith and family were most important to her. She cherished her grandchildren, treasured her great-grandchildren, and adored her great-great-grandchildren. Virginia was a lady of great faith and longtime member of Salem Christian Church. She faithfully attended until her health started to decline and she began to worship online with Salem First Baptist Church. Virginia entered eternal rest July 14, 2024, in Salem, Missouri, at the age of ninety years. Those left behind to cherish her memory include her loving children: Janice Elwood and husband Jeff of Texas, Dennis White and wife Gina of Salem, MO, Rick White and wife Tammy of Salem, MO, and Pam Dunlap and husband Greg of Arkansas; brother: Jimmie Steelman and wife Christina of Salem, MO; sisters-in-law: Ruth Smith of Salem, MO and Barbara White of St. James, MO; grandchildren: Melissa Wilmarth and Chad, Natalie Ellington and John, Andrea Hollingshead and Kyle, Allison White and Nick, Nathan White, Jessica Easter and Joe, Cory White, Samantha Smith and Drew, Aaron White and Dana, Brad White and Rebecca, Leslie Jones and Stacy, and Lindsey Perry and Eric; great-grandchildren: Gage, Cole, Alexxy, Austin, Quin, Chase, Joey, Brentlee, Adelyn, Lynlee, Harper, Sophia, Clayton, Owen, Hunter, Bradleigh, Brendan, Derick, Jaxon, Peyton, Aubrey, and Jordyn; great-great-grandchildren: Asher, Isabella, Amara, and Raegan; as well as a host nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Preceding her in death were her loving husband: Ray White; parents: Herschel and Delsie Smith; brothers: Harold Smith, Donald Smith, and Robert Steelman; granddaughter: Angela White; and great-grandson: Joshua Hollingshead. Virginia will be remembered for her warm smile, gentle heart, and her unwavering love for her family and friends. She will be forever missed by those who loved her most. Funeral Services for Virginia Louise (Smith) White were held Friday, July 19, 2024, at the Salem Christian Church with Pastor Tim Hill officiating. Song selections played were “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art”. Serving as Pallbearers were Brad White, Aaron White, Nathan White, Cory White, Stacy Jones, Chad Wilmarth, Gage Wilmarth, and Cole Wilmarth. Honorary Pallbearer was Eric Perry. Burial was in the North Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem, Missouri.
